""

150 years ago, on the 18th March 1869, Dimitri Ivanovich Mendeleev (also variously transliterated as Dmítriy Ivánovich, Mendelejew, Mendelejeff, Mendeléeff or Mendeléyev from the Cyrillic Дмитрий Иванович Менделеев) presented the first periodic table to the Russian Chemical Society. However, the time was right for the discovery of the periodic table and many early scientists played a vital role in ensuring that table we know and love evolved into its present form.
